North West Devon LEADER+

Transnational & Transregional Projects - Joint projects within the UK and beyond

The ethos of LEADER+ extends to creating networks of similar rural areas throughout Europe so that they can all learn from each others experience, benefit from good motivational relationships, and build on that which each group has achieved individually. In North Devon this has lead to some exciting projects being developed with diverse partners.

SEED - "The Changing Nature of the Rural Environment"

An innovative farmer, Jaap Verseput, in Midden Zeeland, the Netherlands has diversified into organising cultural events within the rural community and commissioning art to be placed in the landscape. His farm and other sites are now home to eclectic and attractive art forms (see www.picknickeiland.nl and www.jaapverseput.nl). His latest project has been to commission artists to produce short digital films on the theme above whilst working with the communities around them.

The Northern Devon Coast & Countryside Service's "Art in the Landscape" project has combined with Jaap to add an international dimension. An exhange of Dutch and North Devon artists working within their communities has produced six digital films which will be screened for the first time in North Devon at Croyde Village Hall on the 18th September 2004.

LEADER+ Transnational Watersports Project

This is a very exciting project covering many aspects related to use of the sea in North Devon. Firm links have been established with LEADER+ offices in Donegal, North West Ireland and Ouest Cornouaille, Brittany, France. Project themes identified early on in development process have evolved considerably, and we are now secruing funding for them to advance.

The project as a whole in all three regions has a lot of support from organisations, businesses and individuals.
